This is where housing variety lives. Mid City and the Garden District hold 1920s–1940s bungalows and historic homes. The LSU area mixes student rentals with long-time owner-occupied streets. South Baton Rouge along Highland, Perkins and Jefferson is mostly established subdivisions from the 1960s onward, with pockets of newer infill. Downtown has condos and lofts. The chronic traffic points are I-10 through town, the Mississippi River bridge and the I-10/I-12 split. Driving across town at rush hour is a different trip than it is midday.
